Leadership Spotlight: Karin Prah, Vice President

  |   Expert Advice, Spotlight

How did you get into the recruiting industry?

My father was programmer and always advised me to follow in his footsteps. As much as IT interested me, anyone who knows me, knows I couldn’t sit still long enough to code. So trying to satisfy my dad, I let him introduce me to the owner of the firm that placed him. As they say the rest is history, I found the best of both worlds by being an IT recruiter.

In your opinion, what are the top three things that make a recruiter successful?

  1. Personal drive to be successful
  2. Being a great listener, understanding each person’s individual needs (whether a client or candidate)
  3. Persistence!!!

What advice do you have for prospective internal hires?

You don’t have to be an expert day one, take comfort in knowing that every recruiter has been in your shoes and it takes time to learn the business. Don’t beat yourself up, but learn from your mistakes. I still learn something new every day. Remember that when you are assisting a candidate to find a job, you are helping them make a decision that affects the rest of their livelihood…so many head hunters forget this! Finally, let your personality shine through, be true to who you are, be confident in yourself, and know you will find success as long as you commit to it.

In your opinion, why should candidates/clients work with RightClick?

I feel at RightClick we have created a recruiting firm that takes pride in our work. We realize the challenges that both clients and candidates face during a search and continually do the right job by both. Yes, we are head hunters, however honesty and transparency goes a long way especially in this industry when you are building and maintaining successful partnerships. We’re not going to sell a job to a potential candidate or a candidate to a hiring manager and conveniently leave out the negatives, we believe in having the difficult conversations that most head hunters will avoid. I take pride in the fact that our clients have come to trust that we have both their needs, and the candidate’s future career in mind with each placement and I personally find this to be our greatest reward.

What is your proudest moment at RightClick?

That is a hard one, there have been many moments that as the “Mom” of the office I am proud of. Guess what makes me smile at the end of each day is one of two things: hearing from a client and/or candidate that we made a perfect match and that they are extremely happy with their new employee or new role. And seeing our newbies make placements, get excited, and find success in a career that’s so rewarding!

If you could have any other job in the world, what would it be?

A cross between the jobs that have made Anthony Bourdain, Danica Patrick and JLo so successful- cooking amazing food, traveling the world, learning about different cultures, driving extremely fast, singing and dancing! If I could do all of that in one job, I’d be living the dream!

Tell us a fun fact about yourself.

If you haven’t figured it out from the question above and my company profile, I’m sort of a gear head, love cars and motorcycles, the faster the better! However when stuck on the parking lot called i95, don’t be surprised if you see me dancing in my car.
